You know that well-known sentence from school – “the estuary is where the river flows into the sea”. So we decided to shoe the first-hand learned geography with examples from the real landscape.
We decided to start our new trip at the mouth of the Zrmanja, about 30 minutes drive from Povljana. Zrmanja flows into the Novigrad Sea approximately 12 km from Obrovac. The river Zrmanja springs in Lika at 330 m above sea level. It forms six canyons from its source to the estuary. We discovered the summer face of Zrmanja, the face of beauty, calm and shining river in summer ideal for boating and swimming in the river.
The peak of beauty in summer are anchored waterfalls, the largest of which is Berber Buk. The children fearlessly and enthusiastically jumped from the top of the waterfall into the river. An indescribable feeling of freedom and enjoyment.
For those who want adrenaline, we recommend Zrmanja in the spring and enjoy rafting or kayaking. And don’t forget that cowboys and Indians may still be hiding in the canyons today 😊
